LYTHAM ST ANNES BEACH
If you like to be beside the seaside, you'll love it on the Lancashire coast. You'll be constantly amazed how from one bay to another there is such a contrast of scenery, culture and experiences.
"...Genteel and sophisticated, Lytham St. Annes is a real breath of fresh air. It offers a real haven for peace and tranquillity as one of England's most traditional seaside resorts, rich in heritage with a stunning Victorian Pier."
St Annes Promenade, St Anne's and old Lytham were separate settlements until 1923. Although Lytham dates back to Doomsday, the architecture of St Anne's is just as interesting.
The opening up of the railway network from the 1850s allowed the rich men in the cotton trade to build impressive residences overlooking the sea. They could easily commute from Lytham and St. Anne's to the cotton towns of Bury, Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley and Manchester. These red brick mansions still stand, some now functioning as small hotels.
St Annes Pier, St. Anne's is a traditional seaside town with a Victorian Pier, gardens and entertainment for all ages. St. Anne's is famous for its Golf Links, there are four championship courses, the Royal Lytham and St. Anne's, St.Anne's Old Links, Fairhaven and Lytham Green Drive.
St Anne's pier with its mock Tudor facade looks older than it is. It was opened by Lord Stanley in 1885.At this time parks and gardens were being planted out and still one of the most colourful is the Ashton gardens.
