FLEETWOOD BEACH
Fleetwood, is famous for its fishing fleets to catch for the kipper industry. A popular resort since the 1800's, the town is on the Wyre estuary overlooking Morecambe Bay.
A planned town, financed by Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood, who went bankrupt before finishing it. His architect, Decimus Burton, designed the North Euston Hotel and the lighthouses, his most famous buildings.There is a fishing port atmosphere as you walk along the promenade and in the gardens.
The market has been here since 1840 in its indoor halls and the large outdoor area, post some kippers home! Fleetwood's seafront is an integral part of the town's long standing attraction to visitors. In recent years it has undergone a much welcome and much needed development reflecting and celebrating its heritage as Britain's premier west coast fishing port.
A tramway has operated between Fleetwood and Blackpool since 1898. In the 1970s it was the only commercially operating tramway in Britain. The trams travel from Blackpool, through Cleveleys, to Fleetwood where they run along Lord Street, the town's main shopping thoroughfare, terminating near the Pharos lighthouse.

Fleetwood trawlers fished the North Atlantic Seas from Newfoundland to Russia.
